My own project, as some of you may know from my personal blog, is based on a folk ballad from the Orkney Isles, The Great Silkie of Sule Skerry. The story is one pinned to Northern legends of silkies (also known as selkies or selchies), a sea-dwelling people who are part-seal or become seals when in the water by wearing magical skins or garments. As ever with these stories, there are many variations.

My book will be printed in black and white, and although these charcoal drawings are development work, I rather like the effect so may continue in a charcoally manner. :)
